WASHINGTON, January 27, 2018 — A bipartisan delegation led by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) has completed a visit to key economic and security partners in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Throughout the visit, including a speech on foreign policy, Speaker Ryan expressed Congress’s commitment to defeating radical Islamist terrorism, and rolling back Iranian aggression in the region.
“American leadership is as important as ever,” Speaker Ryan said. “The regional threats we face today—namely from Iran and Islamist extremism—are as pronounced as ever.
We made it the mission of our bipartisan delegation to focus on ways we can strengthen our regional alliances and partnerships.
I am confident that, standing shoulder to shoulder with our partners in the Middle East, we will succeed in confronting the challenges we face now and in the future.”
Speaker Ryan’s bipartisan delegation included House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX), House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA), Reps. Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Liz Cheney (R-WY), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), and Scott Taylor (R-VA).
Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, the delegation met with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, and toured the Global Center for Combatting Extremist Ideology.

United Arab Emirates. After the speech on foreign policy at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA), Speaker Ryan took part in a question and answer session with EDA Director Bernardino León and UAE Ambassador to the U.S. Yousef Al Otaiba.
The delegation ended its day with a dinner meeting with Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
